Tab a fiberglass patch in from the interior.
Step 4
Hire someone who knows what the hell they're doing to finish the job.

I think you missed a chance there - I would have put a port in the hole for extra light down below when the companionway was closed. You're right though, they did a hell of a job.

remind me of when we remodeled our bathroom. we were great on the demolition but eventually hired someone to put it all back together!
