What's your plan B?

I once had a wise mentor named Denis who told me to "always have a plan B". Our plan B with regard to our head (aka toilet) is our 2nd head. It's nice to have two on the boat. Inevitably, head A broke this week and we quickly unloaded the jackets and beer we had stored in head B and got 'er going. Tonight, head B broke. Plan C you ask? Pooping in a bucket.

It's called a "composting toilet" not a bucket.

Strange I would have thought Plan C was fix Head A!! :)

Your Plan C is our Plan B.

Although, i've been known to poop in a bucket just because.

And what happens when the bucket breaks? Over the rail?

I would have thought over the rail (which is traditional, after all) would come before the bucket... although I suppose it depends on the venue!

I gotta know what went wrong. You already have experience rebuilding these things and pumping them out (ahh, such fond memories of reading that blog entry)! For us the only interesting failure is when the head sheared off at the base leaving nothing to sit on.

We can always count on a poop blog post to generate a healthly discussion. :)

Pooping over the rail has it's downsides. Particularly in a crowded anchorage right after my morning coffee. Lord knows the bucket has been awkward enough.

Here's another tip from your good friends on Hello World:
When faced with pooping in a bucket coupled with a spicy case of diarrhea after eating some questionable fish, best to not choose the bucket with holes drilled in the sides.

And that's all I have to say about that.
